Tree Sketch

Browsing for inspiriation i found this sketch from two summers ago. It was a bicycle drawing,- drawn during a breather on a bike ride around my neighborhood.



The new sketch is pastel on watercolor, about 9 x 12. I expect it to continue to morph into a final painting eventually.

February Sketches

My New Years committment is to paint everyday..something. So, I am working my way through my drawings looking for new material to stimulate me. These two fast sketches, about 20 min each, are from the same sketch of some trees I made a few years ago in Lincoln City.

Since my mothers passing we have been through a period of loss and reflection. There are so many special memories of my Mom to sort through.

Mom died September 16th at 10:30 pm. This is the first painting I have completed to commemorate her passing.

Summers Last Song

My mother is in hospice care here in our home. She will not be with us much longer, it her last song here on Earth. This will be my last painting for a while.

Summer in Yamhill brings lavendar and flowers to bloom in profusion. I painted this from my sketches and photo's from last July.

I am looking forward to a walk in the woods along the coast when spring breaks through he crust of winter ice, so I painted this yesterday in anticipation of that happy event. That is usually February in western Oregon- Not so far off!

While I enjoy the snow, the current arctic weather is getting a bit tedious here in the PNW. To keep the cold winter away I am painting a mountain series from my sketchbook and photo's.

When the wild winds of an Oregon winter take hold my color tends to get bolder. It is my response I suppose to the unremitting greyness of winter, broken only by an occasional sunbreak. With so many long hours in my studio I have time to give free reign to this radical color impulse.
